I thought the predictable smart-arse comment of “Is that all?” would be flung back to the perpetrator automatically, but the surprise of it all, made me speechless for once. I walked on a few more steps before I realized that this was a real event, a milestone in my life, and all I could offer as an insult was, “You’re pathetic!” “Thank you” he replied.
Retracing my steps back to the guest house I had to pass by the “would be Romeo” again and I didn’t want a repeat performance. One disappointing event in a day is enough. A passing couple, he a wimpy looking punk, and she a bold, strong looking hippy took an interest in my tale and acted as bodyguards. It took the punk and me a little while to get through to the non- English speaking girl what a “flasher” was cheap ray ban sunglasses , and I had the horrible vision of her boyfriend giving a practical demonstration.
